on how some local businesses are cashing in. >> reporter: speaking of tickets, there are some still available if you are willing to pay. stubhub has standing room only for $300 up to thousands of dollars for box seats. but however you're going to watch the game on television, in person here at the field, it's going to be all eyes at at&t park at 5:07 tonight. this family wants to be the first family in line to see three innings free. fans are cycled out in the third and sixth innings. >> i want to see the first three innings, second watch us hopefully beat the tigers. >> reporter: this morning field crews were pulling back the tarp from the infield getting it ready for the world series spotlight. >> it's a chance of a lifetime. >> reporter: fans in the dugout store were waiting for new

world series gear hot off the delivery truck. >> my boyfriend. >> are you going to any of the games? >> not being a broke college student. just watching. >> reporter: businesses are cashing in on giants fever. the chancellor is running a promotion, two grand two tickets and a room for the night. >> we are getting a lot more calls recently because it kind of came in fast. but the excitement is definitely there. we're already getting calls about games 6 and 7. >> reporter: next wednesday and thursday if played here at at&t park. mayor lee has a bet with the mayor of detroit. that bet was that the loser has to go to the winner's town, do some work at a charity, tour some of the businesses that make that city great. i don't know exactly what that would be here in san francisco, to be determined. mayor lee hopes he will be able

to take the mayor of detroit up on that. anne makovec, cbs 5. a big question for fans of course is the weather. looking a little ominous right now. we turn to the expert for that lawrence karnow for what we can expect at the ballpark later on tonight. so we're talking a few showers out there. >> we got some showers now. of course we had that rainfall moving through early on but things kind of just popping up now. we are getting a little afternoon heating and here we go. could get interesting as we head in toward the game. we are seeing a few showers hit and miss just like this. this is what we could see pop up toward game time. we are seeing some of those near san pablo, richmond, into the east bay hills but things will settle down more so in the afternoon the high pressure trying to begin to sneak this as the trough begins to slide in. the official forecast for tonight a 20% chance of a wandering shower moving on through. i don't think that it will be a rainout, cool, brisk, temperatures in the 50s and 60s although beautiful clouds in the background should make for a great backdrop for a great

world series game tonight. what do you think? >> that's right. go giants. more than 40,000 people are expected to attend that fall classic tonight. but not everyone will be arriving to the game on public transportation. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran now with the parking rates that are going as high as $100. am i saying that right? >> reporter: you are, liz. that $100 is 100 reasons for me to want to take public transit. we just drove by a parking garage near the stadium. they are also already posting parking for $80. we saw some also started at $20 but those owners told me that will drastically change in the next couple of hours. one parking attendant said normally the garages in the area cater to about 55,000 people. now they anticipate twice as many. why do you think prices bet that high? >> people like the giants. we want the world series and

elementary school and martin luther king middle school. and in san francisco's inner sunset district police are searching for three suspects who got away after a burglary today. this happened near 14th avenue around 9:00. the suspects took off in a silver truck later found crashed near ucsf hospital. no word of any arrests. in campaign 2012 coverage, a u.s. senate candidate is trying to set the record straight about his comments on rape. indiana republican richard mourdock says today his words are being taken out of context. in a debate last night mourdock was talking about abortion and how he feels it should only be allowed if it's to save the mother's life. >> even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that god intended to happen. >> republican presidential candidate mitt romney appeared in a tv ad for mourdock. a spokesman says mourdock's

comments from last night do not reflect romney's views. it is of course now the final stretch for both candidates. with just 13 days until the election, president obama and republican rival mitt romney are ramping up their campaigns in those battleground states. cbs reporter tara mergener shows us they are even turning to some celebrities now to help draw in the votes. >> reporter: president obama rallied supporters in iowa, the first stop in a campaign blitz. >> fly around campaign marathon extravaganza. we're going to pull an all- nighter. no sleep. >> reporter: he is covering more than 5,000 miles, the bi- state swing ends in florida. mitt romney is going to rallies in iowa and and other states. >> we don't have to settle. americans are tired of being tired. we can do better. >> reporter: polls show the

race for the white house is too close to call and with less than two weeks until election day, the candidates know every vote counts. the election will likely come down to nine battleground states and that's where most campaigns are spending almost all their money and time. paul ryan and joe biden been dispatched to ohio. ♪ [ music ] >> reporter: and both campaigns are relying on star power. >> we need someone who can turn it around fast and that man is mitt romney. >> reporter: clint eastwood is featured in a new ad for mitt romney. bruce springsteen is in swing states for the president. they hope it will push supporters to the polls now for early voting in many battleground states. >> i want you to go vote. >> reporter: the president is take his own advice. he plans to vote in illinois tomorrow. tara mergener for cbs news, the white house. and 82-year-old driver stuck in the sierra snow for

of the year. boeing's optimistic outlook bucked te welcome back. stocks are stabilizing today after one of its biggest selloffs of the year. boeing's optimistic outlook bucks a recent string of disappointments and boosted the dow this morning. right now the dow is down a little bit about 14 points at 13,087. career builder is out with its annual list of the best cities to find work. san jose here in the bay area tops the list of cities with

the most job growth since 2010. houston and austin, texas are second and third. and detroit, michigan, comes in at fourth. the biggest growth industries are energy production, technology and healthcare. federal prosecutors are going after major mortgage companies. bank of america and countrywide. the $1billion suit alleges both banks okayed loans without making sure borrowers could afford them. and executives knew they were going down a dangerous path. those bad loans were sold to fannie mae and freddie mac which were left to pay for the loans when they defaulted. it could be good news for the 30 million americans dealing with debt collectors. the government is getting involved. the consumer financial protection bureau will start overseeing debt collection companies in january. the concern, harsh tactics that are harassing and intimidating. before this, collectors could be punished for violating federal consumer laws. but the feds couldn't force companies to change their

routine business practices. okay. so you buy a new car and expect it to perform perfectly, right? that wasn't case for an east bay car owner. cbs 5 consumerwatch reporter julie watts now picks up the story. >> reporter: yeah, liz. it's one thing to have a problem with the car you have been driving for a couple of years but we spoke with the owner of a brand-new little mini with a big problem. >> well, it never really felt right to me from the get-go. >> reporter: you could say drew's relationship with his new mini got off to a rough start. >> i would have trouble getting it to go into gear. >> reporter: a week after he bought it, things got worse. >> i pulled over and yeah, it was smoking like crazy. >> reporter: so drew, who suspected a problem with the clutch, called mini of concord and he couldn't believe their response. >> see this told me it was my fault. >> reporter: and he says the mini dealer wanted at least $2,000 to fix his brand-new mini. now, this may sound a bit familiar. last year, we told you about

another mini owner who said he got a similar response when his clutch failed after 13,000 miles. >> they immediately put the blame on me. they called me an abusive driver. >> reporter: but drew only had 500 miles on his car. and these men aren't alone. other mini owners complain online they too were blamed for early clutch failure. but drew, who worked in the auto industry, knew this wasn't his fault. so he called consumerwatch, and our volunteer chuck took over from there. >> i think he got the runaround. >> reporter: he says in cases like this, persistence pays off. >> bottom line, don't subject yourself to the first response when it comes to a warranty issue on the clutch. >> reporter: chuck contacted everybody involved, two dealerships and two weeks later mini of concord replaced drew's clutch free of charge. >> great, no problems. >> reporter: now he is raving about the car and consumerwatch. >> thank you very much. it was a great help. >> that's what we're here for. >> reporter: it sure is. and if you have a consumer

ed boydston usually leaves s an 82-year-old man is okay after spending three days stranded in his truck in a sierra snowstorm. ed usually leaves his house at emigrant gap before the snow begins but the timing didn't work out this time. then his chains broke. so he spent three days in his truck just hanging out eating peanuts and peaches. >> i sat there for about a little over two days. the third day i guess i called 911. >> i'm sorry, ed, you sat in your car for almost three details? >> yeah. yeah. >> why didn't you call 911 an hour after you were stuck? >> well, why get excited, you know? [ laughter ] >> he is just a laid back guy. a placer county sheriff sergeant drove him to colfax to meet with a friend who plans to drive ed to his other home in bay point. and lawrence and i have seen that video now probably

five times. >> that guy is great, didn't panic. >> he just chilled out for three days. >> peaches and peanuts. >> i know. and an energy drink. kept him going. >> and his dog. what could be better than that in the snow. a lot of rain here early on this morning turning into snow in the high country and it was coming down pretty good around much of the sierra nevada and they continue to see some snowfall up there. bring chains there. you'll need them. winter weather advisory up there. a lot of truckers chaining up. in the bay area, the rain continues to fall but it is more widely scattered, got it look towards some of these cells and this one making its way into the east bay right now near el sobrante and you can see in pinole valley road more showers, and embedded heavy showers. wouldn't be surprised if we saw thunderstorms embedded, as well. so through the afternoon, not bad weather. we'll see the clouds part sometime. you will see some sunshine and those cumulus clouds will come over before you know it maybe

a stray shower wandering on by. the temperatures cool. 59 degrees in santa rosa. 58 in san jose. 61 degrees in san francisco. as we head toward the afternoon partly cloudy, still a chance of some scattered light showers and then as we get into tonight the atmosphere begins to settle down. it looks like a couple of patches of fog returning to the bay. so with that in mind, showers ending today, a little breezy at the coastline, but high pressure looks to be building in. looks like around the bay area today it looks like those showers should come to an end and we'll stop this computer model in the middle of the game and yup looks like it will stay dry and then looks like the clouds should begin to make their way back into the bay area just some patchy fog. temperatures mainly into the 60s outside in the south bay 50s and 60s at the coast. you have 60s into the east bay. and into the central bay keeping temperatures mainly into the 50s and 60s. next couple of days we are going to watch as high pressure builds in. the temperatures warming back up on saturday and sunday. maybe some more rain coming in late next tuesday. all right. cbs 5's roberta gonzales is

out live and can you feel the excitement at mccovey cove, roberta? >> that's an interesting point there lawrence, because i have to tell you, i even have butterflies it's so exciting out here. the big reason is, it's been 111 years of modern day baseball and you would have thought that the tigers had played against the giants for a world series title in the past. no. this is their first encounter ever in 111 years of modern day baseball. and between the two of them they have 33 pennants. 22 for the giants, 11 for the tigers. but but this is the first. people have been gathering out here all morning. >> dave from pleasanton. >> jimmy from pleasanton. >> shirley rivera from san jose. >> what does this mean to you today, shirley? >> well, i'll tell you, i have been a giants fan 58 , went to the park in the '60s. was at the '62 world series, we lost. i was at the 2000 with -- what

today's tip of the day is cremini mushrooms. it holds all the flavor in. there's less moisture than the white mushroom and they look pretty. but you have to select and store them right. otherwise because you will throw away your money. when you buy them, this is a perfect mushroom. nice and light brown all the way around. the cavity is closed and the stem is white. that's important. when you bring them home, you want to simply store them in the refrigerator right away. now, one thing about buying mushrooms if you, in the plastic bag they heat up and decay. ask for a paper bag. they breathe and last much longer in the refrigerator. so the brown paper bag is very
